Mobile platforms are among the hardest targets in security research, and among the most valuable. This track builds the specific knowledge each platform demands — Apple’s layered protections on one side, the Binder and privileged service surface on the other.

The same platforms feature heavily in our own work; our research articles include a full study of macOS and iOS internals for vulnerability research.

Students coming from the reverse engineering track will find this track a natural extension, though it is not a formal prerequisite.

Platform internals, reverse engineering and exploitation on the two mobile platforms that matter. ARM Assembly comes first — both platform courses assume you can read ARM64 disassembly. The iOS and Android courses are independent of each other and can be taken in either order.

ARM Assembly

The ARM and ARM Assembly concepts used in reverse engineering, malware analysis and exploit development. Covers the ARM architecture and Apple Silicon, and the instructions needed to understand reversed code while working on vulnerability research.

iOS Security Research

Practical techniques for iOS security research, with the foundation knowledge required to understand the context. Reviews macOS and iOS architecture, internals, memory management and security, then moves into the reversing operations used to begin research on the platform.

Android Security Research

Practical techniques for security research on Android devices. Covers Android architecture, security and memory management, then the Binder, storage and connectivity stacks, followed by static and dynamic analysis work.
